Daily to Decade

The Multiplier with Consistency

Where are your daily activities, choices and habits taking you? Does the daily matter? Think back ten years where you were.  The next ten years are filled with dynamic possibilities! We all get the opportunity to create our way with daily choices, activities and habits. I remember building a custom home with stone on the front elevation. The custom stone wall was not pre-made. The heavy stones were chiseled and laid in place one at a time by a stone mason, and a masterpiece was revealed one stone at a time.

Leadership Attribute of Consistency

Consistency is a powerful leadership attribute that has exponential rewards. It has the power to carry your goals, dreams and purpose to completion. Maybe you're an inspiring leader searching for next level growth in your field of expertise? Do you have decade thinking? Decade thinking influences your immediate choices. Let’s step back for a moment. You may be thinking, I am just trying to get a sale or deal or feel good about myself again. Maybe being stuck at the moment seems like a mountain, and you may be asking yourself, how can I even think a decade from now? That's fair! Stay with me for a moment.

What is Your Daily Building

How does a beautiful custom stone wall get built? One chiseled stone at a time. How do we do twenty sit ups?  One at a time. A movie is made one scene at a time. Each scene, one frame at a time. Our immediate choices have a domino effect. How can we set up a pattern of habits that foster dynamic, long term growth ONE DECADE from now?

“The ability to discipline yourself to delay gratification in the short term in order to enjoy greater rewards in the long-term is the indispensable prerequisite for success.”  ~ Brian Tracy

A Turtle or Rabbit

All animals are wonderful! Being a person who loves nature and animals, If you watch a rabbit, they take more risks with hawks flying above, versus a turtle who lives many more years and is a bit more consistently cautious. However, a turtle does eventually have to stick its neck out to come up for air to breathe. Possibly, we can learn from both the turtle and the rabbit. Quick observation: Rabbits hop around. Turtles are steady and patient.

  1. What leadership principle can you apply from the turtle and rabbit?

  2. What financial applications can we learn?

  3. How can what you invest in now multiply out exponentially in a decade?

Routines May Seem Boring

Think of a train’s routine on the tracks. The tracks create boundaries and process to allow speed, safety and effectiveness. I wonder how many millions of pounds of payload are moved daily? Consistency seems, at first, like a simple routine, even boring, but then, out of nowhere, you can see bursting growth!

Think of a seed planted. At first, all you see is soil, then, within weeks, there is a green haze of growth across the field. Consistency is like the water, at times, taken for granted when it’s not flowing. We know when it’s missing, and we may feel off that day or out of our routine.

The great principle with consistency always works when we work it. For example, walking consistently daily… the benefits are remarkable 1-3 months later. Again, if you stop for a week, most people will notice. This next quote may not be modern vogue.

“Small disciplines repeated with consistency every day lead to great achievements gained slowly over time.” ~ John C. Maxwell

  1. What one new daily habit can you embrace for thirty days to begin your decade of promise?

  2. How could an interpersonal skill influence results, like smiling or listening to understand compound over a year?

Growing Your Consistency to Multiply Results

There are many different aspects of running and growing a company including Systems, People, Culture and Core Values. To grow effectively and efficiently, let’s ask two prominent questions: What is working well? And what growth opportunities are there in each area? But first, a perspective on consistency from a pro golfer.

“It's not what we do once in a while that shapes our lives. It's what we do consistently.”  ~ Anthony Robbins

Pro Golfer’s Mindset

I remember, one day meeting with a golf pro and interviewing this individual for my son to see if it was a good fit for him. He said something very profound that stuck with me since. He made this statement. He said, what separates a professional golfer and an amateur golfer is their committed consistency. He said if you’re not willing to practice eight hours a day, seven days a week, you will not become a pro. He also said that if you miss one of those days, it’s like missing two weeks of practice. He reiterated the power of consistency.

“Success is neither magical nor mysterious. Success is the natural consequence of consistently applying basic fundamentals.” ~ E. James Rohn

Keys to Shift into Decade Mindset

  1. Know your vision. Your vision is what it looks like built.

  2. Make a committed decision for the decade.

  3. Set clear, core values to mirror choices.

  4. Feed your mind in the direction you desire to grow.

  5. Do it for a day, then repeat daily.

“Consistency is what transforms average into excellence.” ~ Anonymous

Whatever you built in the past, it may or may not be working. Possibly you are ready for a renovation, a reset, a reimagining of the next decade. You are not your past. You have a promise and a future. What if you feed your faith daily, then repeat daily? It’s not too late to seize the power of being consistent! Enjoy the daily - it’s building for the next decade! You got what it takes!
