Second Quarter Reset
We just began the second quarter; how did your first quarter go? Let’s take a few minutes and take inventory of where you’re at with your new year goals! How are your goals measuring towards 100% completion? How do you feel your first quarter rhythm was? What one adjustment, if you made it, would alter your course and allow you to hit the result you desire? How are you doing with your core values? How are your business culture and systems going?
Maybe you hit a test, a speed bump so to speak, and you are feeling that your year is going different than you planned. A vision gets tested and needs to be steered and strengthened. After taking a pulse or business inventory on where you’re at, ask, how can we pivot into the direction of completing those goals? Think back to your new year launch; what was the biggest goal behind the goal for you? How can you feed your goal behind the goal?
Consider These Benchmark Questions:
1. Are you still taking steps of action towards the goals set during the new year?
2. What new, noticeable habits are carrying your goals?
3. What attitudes are you noticing towards your goals?
4. Is there any event or relationship influencing goal inaction?
In the building industry, there were times when building a new home that we would hit rock. I can remember before 9/11 when we were building our personal new home, we began digging, and the entire area was solid limestone rock! We had a goal to build a new custom home and decided to keep moving! After an extra $10,000 20 plus years ago, and after the initial news, we flipped the script and used the rock for beautiful landscape walls.
A trap or time waster can be be old habits, comfort, conformity, mindsets, or even attitudes that can pop up, delaying action steps! Consider pre-planning a response when noticing a triggered response!
“Every adversity, every failure, every heartbreak, carries with it the seed of an equal or greater benefit.” ~Napoleon Hill
1. Make note of the meaning that’s attached when you hit a speed bump of adversity.
2. How do you emotionally respond when hitting a potential time delay?
3. What is one thing that, if you said no to, would free up mental and creative capacity?
It’s Not To Late To Do A Goal Reset
Ask yourself, what new opportunities presented themselves in your market sphere? Are there any new ways to pivot and adjust, taking steps forward into strategic growth? How are you doing with your core business purpose? Do any new opportunities add or take away from your core mission?
Alignment of Core Values
Core values are like a foundation: many times hidden, but you know they are there! Ask yourself, how are your core values defining your choices? Think of your core values like pistons in an engine: when they are working together, the engine has a powerful rhythm! If one piston loses a seal and oil leaks, it can be devastating to the engine. To stay in a healthy rhythm, staying in alignment with your core values is so important. Blurring the lines of core values can pull the business in an unprepared direction. Consider a core value reset by writing them down or reading them out loud. Ask, how are our systems, culture and people doing when held up to our core values?
Do your goals fit the S.M.A.R.T. technique? To create the result you desire, is a goal reset needed?
A). S – Specific
B). M – Measurable
C). A – Attainable
D). R – Realistic
E). T – Time
Key: Writing your goals in present tense language.
Example: I now weigh _______ pounds on or before 12/23/23.
Example: (Company Name) now created _______ dollars in revenue on or before 12/23/23.
Example: I now settled on ________ houses/sales on or before 12/23/23.
For Reset Purposes, Ask These Three Questions Every Quarter:
1. Where am I going?
Earl Nightingale said, “People with goals succeed because they know where they’re going.”
2. What am I building?
Jack Penn said, “One of the secrets of life is to make stepping stones out of stumbling blocks.”
3. Who am I becoming?
Jeffery Gitomer said, “Obstacles can’t stop you. Problems can’t stop you. Most of all, other people can’t stop you. Only you can stop you.”
REIMAGINING
Continue to create forward through your second quarter reset! Reimagine to foster ideas and innovation, create an even greater reason to grow, and adjust to complete your goals. Remember, your test is training. You are not your test. Think of the first quarter like runway for the jet to take off!
